I wouldn't exclude the possibility that most of these are instances of
nerdview <https://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=276>.
I don't know how many of these are Reach publications, but in many cases
the journalists won't be local and
will have little other choice but to lightly regurgitate a press release
(tech journalists on many weeklies did this
back in the 1980s, even if they phoned for a quote). The chances of the PR
using insiders argot is rather high.
I've always been a little concerned that even very well known roundabout
names which aren't signposted are more loc_name
than name (one's local to me Bardills, Priory, QMC, Nottingham Knight,
Wheatcrofts and Crown Islands/roundabouts). They are certainly
heavily used locally, but would someone from elsewhere be aware of what
they referred to? Some, such as Crown Island
<https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/410294608> were originally part of
a named road (Wollaton Road) as well, and the approach used for MItcham's
Corner <https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/288176853> may be more
appropriate (as for the original J29 issue).
