[Talk-GB] What does tourism=caravan_site mean?

As another campervan owner I would agree with the need to differentiate between a site you can stay on (touring) and one you cannot (static caravans only).
The other additional complication we have in the UK is certificated sites. The caravan club (now rebranded) has in excess of 2000 of these and the camping club a few hundred. These are generally limited to members only. I think this is a condition of the legal framework. They can be as basic as a grass field with an A4 sign for identification on the ground, so not so easy to spot/survey out of season.
When it comes to motorhome stopovers (Aires in Europe) we do now have a few. Historically, the UK has been tolerant of people stopping over in car parks etc (so called “wildcamping”) so there hasn’t been much of a need but there has been a large increase in this over the last few years and many councils have put in no overnight parking/sleeping restrictions. Some councils are introducing more formal arrangements for stopovers. These can just be a few marked bays in a car park or may be a designated area with barrier access and access to drinking water etc. As a campervan owner it is useful to know where these are and what facilities they have.
