[Talk-in] Mapping without a smartphone : options + process?

Hi Mayuresh,

I started with a Garmin long back( around 10 years), Bought with Europe
map, So  I used it with OSM maps
(https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin) thus came to
know about OSM, started mapping.

That  Garmin was not very accurate (I have to correct most of those
roads later). After 2-3 years later  some  smartphones came with
better(<10m) accuracy like samsung galaxy or 1+1(without net/sim in
flight mode all times, file copy through USB).

Recently I felt dual frequency GNSS like 1+7Pro etc have less error-- I
don't own one so I cannot say for sure.  This is the reason I suggested
smartphone, I also use feature phone mostly(smart phone GPS for mapping).

One of my requirement is to map newly constructed 4 lines(from 2
lines) highways with good accuracy also chicanes(speed barriers ) and
humps placed in highways ---this need accuracy in 2-3m as I cannot map
while driving. My current devices does not support this accuracy.

Most probably Garmin would have improved a lot. But the specification
does not say much just "high-sensitivity receiver", they don't mention
dual frequency or accuracy.

Please let me know your experience with Garmin. Even I am also thinking
of buying one at some point :), for the same reason.

Regards

Sunil
