[Openstreetmap] Portable map data collector

I recently got a Sharp Zaurus, and is considering how to contert it to
a portable map data collector.  I'm still lacking the GPS.

My idea is to set up some system with handsfree sound recording for
annotating the data (Bluetooth handsfree set is available), and a GPS
of some kind.  My Zaurus got a WLAN card, so I could use wlan between
the zaurus and a laptop, perhaps.

Any clues regarding a portable map data collector configuration?  What
hardware and software would I need?
