It was good to have you with us Rob :-)
1. I spotted this problem too. Even plenty of Bath streets where the terrace
name on each side is different from the streetname. I'll give it some
thought and post a suggestion to the list shortly.
2. This might be JOSM running out of available memory. Try something like:
C:\....\java.exe -jar -Xmx256M "C:\.........\josm-latest.jar" That's the
format I use as a shortcut link from my desktop which assigns 256MB to JOSM.
3. Over to NickW
4. Up to you how deep you tag. Highway type and name will get a good
rendering in Osmarender. Adding the "abutter" key will also colour the land
either side of each road as "residential" or "commercial" etc. See the
"Map_Features" page on the wiki for the full list.
5. I create ways to include branches where it's logical. Just bear in mind
though that convoluted non linear ways create problems for displaying the
street name properly in Osmarender. Also a good idea to keep the direction
of segments the same for each way you create. This also helps with name
display. You can turn direction arrows for segments on or off from the
preferences section in JOSM. To highlight a single segment that is already
part of a way hold the Alt key when selecting.
There should be a Q&A night for editing on IRC (#OSM) at 9:00 BST. (Etienne
can you confirm?..Is it tomorrow (Tue) or am I a week out..) You can ask
questions as they arise there.
Cheers,
Andy
