OK, in that case it makes sense; still the main server needs to make
available all the data to the "distribution servers" on "new" requests; I
don't know the details of the BW usage, hits, etc, but is that scenario
scalable for the main server?

Great idea. The other problem is of course the implementation... :) I
don't know the OSM implementation details, is this a feasible way to do
it?
