They actually share the same manual, so it does appear they behave the
same way. Definitely worth testing.

After trawling the Garmin website, I note that the (cheaper!) eTrex
Venture Cx has an update too, with exactly the same changelog and
version number; presumably the hardware for these two models is similar
enough that their firmwares compiled from the same source tree. For some
reason the Venture Cx firmare is listed on the Legend's updates page
rather than the Venture's, but it's clearly identified as Venture:

If anyone on this mailing list has a Venture Cx, could they test this
update, to see that gpx logging to micro-SD card works the same as on
the Legend Cx? If it does, that means we can add a cheaper option to the
wiki page Joerg just started at:
