I'm not feeling as tactful as Mikel today.

I've never heard such patronising BS as this on the list before - from
you, Lars, or anyone.

Oh wait... Nevermind that I disagree with your 2 points... *now* I've
never heard such patronising BS on the list before. It's a Sunday!
Who lets their "manager" tell them to stop reading mailing list
discussions on a Sunday?
As the list has been made aware, Steve moved house last week (and had
no internet connection until today) and was in Copenhagen this week
(to promote the long-term vision and sustainability of the project to
people who can help most). I know he's been working on planet.osm
this afternoon and it's proving tricky. Give the guy a break! He got
home about 1am this morning from Copenhagen and he flies to California
on Wednesday (to promote the long-term vision and sustainability of
the project to people who can help most). Perhaps he might want to
say hello to people he hasn't seen before, maybe have a nap, unpack
his stuff, put his laundry on, etc.?
Despite appearances, Steve cannot and does not work on OSM 24/7 - even
taking into account people's generous donations, OSM doesn't pay the
bills by itself. Readers of this list should be well aware of Steve's
efforts to delegate responsibilty to a Foundation - this isn't a red
herring, it's something we need if responsibility and personal
liability for privacy, legal, etc are to be shared or carried by
someone other than Steve. It should also allow funding to be
transparent, and then we'll see who needs a manager ;)

FWIW I wouldn't and couldn't have got to it any sooner than Steve this
week, since I was also in Copenhagen.

So what? 20 hours on a weekend. Big deal.
The planet will not stop turning if planet.osm is late. As I said to
Christopher - impatient people are the last thing we need. Anyone
demanding anything off Steve in this way (for financial incentive or
not) has crossed the line and is outside the spirit of the project
entirely.

Sure, give Christopher a developer account on dev.openstreetmap.org if
he wants one. That would be really helpful I think, for trying out
stuff. These, along with read/write access to svn, are on offer to
anyone expressing a serious interest in helping the project.
(I don't think an account on www should be handed out anywhere near as
freely though. I think a coherent vision is best maintained right now
by having Steve at the helm. The merits of this are for discussion
when the Foundation is ready.)

Harder than it sounds but it's on its way.
