For anyone who is interested in countryside uses of OSM data, I'd like to
announce Freemap Live! This is similar in approach and scope to Osmabrowser,
in that it is a "static", non-slippy, web-based renderer of OSM data which
uses the live API. To avoid API overload a user cannot zoom out beyond an
approximate 3km x 3km view. It's not intended to be a replacement for a
slippy map, and is geared for countryside rather than town use -- the maps of
towns probably won't look that good, due to line join issues. It's basically
aimed at people who want to visit a certain location in the countryside and
get an idea of the paths and other info before they go.
The Freemap mashup stuff (walk routes, etc) will be runnable from Freemap
Live! as well as the slippy, planet-based main Freemap site.
