[OSM-talk] Megastar

I agree, if it's seen as a competition then it's liable to misuse.

As one of the 1M trackpoint uploaders I know that I have a few tracklogs
which should not really qualify, either because they were uploaded as part
of Mapchester & Bath (ie not my log) or due to duplication. Some of my
Acer's logs in the early days were dropping two identical points in the log
file for the same timestamp, hence why you will find "filtered" after any
Acer logs I produce now. It took me a few weeks to spot this was happening.

Having said that, the amount of duplication is relatively small. The real
reason I have reached 1M + is that I have spent a lot of time and effort to
make sure I log at a high interval rate on almost every walk, cycling
session and car journey I make plus taking additional time to get involved
in workshops and the like. Thus it was a rather nice surprise to receive a
"megastar", made me realise that we are achieving something lasting and that
others are doing the same too.

So please don’t let us make it a competition but please lets think of more
ways to reward those who have spent time and effort beyond the call of duty
to get OSM to where it is now, not just those with gps units that can log at
1 sec intervals. I can think of a few who really do deserve a huge pat on
the back, they are the real megastars here.

Cheers

Andy
