I do not agree with this statement.
This exactly should be avoided, that data again could be withdrawn from
the public. If you you intend to mark those secret places for mushrooms,
then you can use a payed map already available. The more private
intentions will build upon OSM, OSM looses its strength.
It should be rather not interesting enough to get used for private
issues only.
If you contribute to the OSM, the data should be valuable enough for
other people too. This changes the whole character of the project.
If it remains all open, the data base will grow much more with much more
interesting data. Data which will derived from myriads of layers
generated by OSM folks, which will bring money by correlating those
would bother me a lot!
I would not care about financial contributions and would rely only on
organizations who will pay for freely.
My opinion to money devoted to OSM, should not go to the GPX-collectors
and cartographes, this would steel the spirit and would lead to a
ranking pressure in the community.
Better let it grow slow and with so good servers, than becoming a puppet
of money you depend on.
