[OSM-talk] OpenLayers Vector-based OSM editor

Not that the world needs yet another OpenStreetMap editor, but I thought it
would make a fun project to see what could be done with the new Vector
facilities in OpenLayers.

Not much so far, but a demo is available at

http://www.free-map.org.uk/vector/index.html

At the moment there are no facilities to change OSM data, but you can drag the
map and new OSM data will be loaded as you drag around. Using the mode
buttons at the bottom you can also select ways, draw new ways (using the
OpenLayers draw tool) and change the type of the currently selected way.
High-level types are used (e.g footpath, bridleway, byway); the full tag set
is hidden for the moment. It will complain if you try to supply an
unrecognised type.

Code is in OpenStreetMap SVN under editors/osmajax - resurrecting the name of
an aborted pre-OpenLayers experiment to do something similar last August.

Seems to work on both Firefox 1.5 and IE 6 - though the map doesn't appear on
IE until you drag.
