[OSM-talk] Need help with mathematics for runways

Hi everyone,

The x-plane.org airport runway data (which is derived from DAFIF, which
is public domain) defines runways with lat/lon of the center of the
runway, the direction (against true north) and length in feet.

I'd like to derive from that data the lat/lon of the two endpoints of
the runway, if possible with the smallest amount of distortion due to
small float variables.

Is the formula given at http://williams.best.vwh.net/avform.htm#LL
(Lat/Lon given radial and distance) the correct one to use or would I
have to set up a PostGIS server and feed my source data into it? If so,
is there any example source for perl and/or java and postgis?

Regards,
Hakan
