First of all, I disagree that the usability was good in versions before 
0.5. The permanent switch between modes was really cumbersome - you'll 
only got used to it (but that's opposite to what usability really means).

Unfortunately, the current "modeless" way has it's drawbacks as well 
(especially the "key modifiers" are against what most people are used to 
do), but I think it's still at least better than it was before.


However, I won't argue that the current way needs improvements as well, 
e.g. IMHO we desperately need a *delete action* in addition to the 
delete mode (at least I don't need the delete mode most of the time, but 
would need a delete action to delete single items).

P.S: It would help a lot more if people are describing their workflows 
to explain where the problems are: "when I want to add a node then I 
first click ...". Simply complaining "I don't like this" doesn't help 
the developers in any way to improve the current situation ...
