[OSM-talk] export to .map

hi Hugo,

It depends on what you want to do and what license the imagery you
have is under.  OSM uses imagery from Yahoo! that we are allowed to
derive vectors from.  Everything done here is communal, in that all
the data is shared in a central repository.  OSM is not yet at the
stage where it can be easily bent and applied to other projects, in
the way that a tool like QGIS can be - mainly because it wasnt
designed to do this.

If you are deriving vectors from images that are proprietery, you
shouldn't put the data from them into OSM.  I have used QGIS a bit -
its good in that its a single package that installs easily and
generally works out of the box.  I think it has the ability to trace
vectors as well.

Of course, you are Free to use OSM data in any way you like!
