[OSM-talk] Slippy map plugin for JOSM

Hi,

I have written a small plugin for JOSM that show you the slippy map
grid (i.e. the tile boundaries) and can also load tiles from a slippy
map server to be shown in the background. Planned features also include
the ability to request re-rendering a tile if the tile platform supports
it, an requesting meta information about the last rendering.

This is a very early version with lots of bugs an limitations. It is not
configurable. At all. It only shows the level 12 grid, only loads level
12 tiles, and only from tiles at home (dev server). It is also slow.

Source and a working .jar file are in SVN (also linked from Imi's plugin
page at http://josm.eigenheimstrasse.de/wiki/Plugins). Drop the .jar in
your plugins directory and activate it in the preferences. Now if you
load data, a grid should show up (not visible if you are at a too high
or too low zoom setting). Right-click within a tile area to request
loading the tile from a context menu. If the tile is not displayed
promptly, it is probably just the dev server that's broken again
(compare http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~ojw/Browse/ and see if you get
anything there).

Each tile load has to be triggered manually via the context menu, it is
not done automatically for fear of further diminishing the server's
performance.

I am happy to listen to user requests & ideas, bear in mind that this is
still very much work-in-progress.

Bye
Frederik
