I don't think it was anything particular about us .. just that we were late on the scene, and don't have any Google people contributing to OSM.
So I think it's possible, if we get organized soon. I think the first step would be to check any contacts we have at Google,
see if we can drum up interest or a champion. Or at least, get an informal indication from the SoC people what our chances are.
Or we can just go ahead. A useful exercise, a taking stock of all our various development efforts,
what's hot, needs consolidation, or needs more attention. Even if it's not through Summer of Code,
we have collectively many university contacts and there's interested students everywhere.

In a larger scope, it would be a good exercise to review what people are developing,
go through trac, do a bit of project planning and add some collective ideas to all our personal itch scratching.
