[OSM-talk] country borders from CIA world databook?

which uses the quite crude vmap0 data.  OSM have shapefiles with vmap0
derived coastlines, but they are of little use at a greater-than-regional /
openlayers zoom level 5, as they were originally derived at a scale of
1:1m.

As for borders, its a case that no-one got round to doing it.  If you could
supply the data in shapefile format and edit the mapnik config file, the
coastlines could be rendered in the next round of rendering.
