I've used that method plenty of times. Also, if your log needs converting
from NMEA to GPX then you can set the time and also accuracy (HDOP etc)
limits to remove bad data during the conversion with gpsbabel.
Finally you can open the GPX file in a text editor and delete the data at
the beginning and end of the log using the timestamps as a reference for the
amount to dump.
