[OSM-talk] [Voting] highway=living_street voting started

Hi!

The proposal about highway=living_street is ready for a vote IMO, the 
only thing that was discussed is how to tag the road classification. 
There were different alternatives discussed, but I still think 
highway=living_street is by far the best solution compared to the other 
discussed alternatives.


It seems that the concept of a living_street is a legal classification 
in at least 7 european countries and in addition it actually has 
different regulations compared to the existing highway tags residential 
and pedestrian. So it just makes sense here to have a different highway 
tag - because it *is* different.

Any attempts to fit a living_street into the existing highway tags is 
just painful for both mappers (4 or more key/value pairs instead of just 
the usual 2) and renderers / routers (simple tag instead of "derive and 
guess" classification from subtags) in the long run.


I don't mind if our renderers can't handle it right from the start - I 
can easily fix this once the proposal is approved. I want to have a 
clean long term solution, not a quick hack.

P.S: Please don't disapprove this proposal just because there's no such 
(legal) concept of a living_street in your country, so you personally 
don't need it (therefore "they" should fit it somehow into the existing 
scheme)!
