Thanks, these all are sensible proposals. I'd like to ask to render
highway=steps in mapnik. Starting with level 2 or 3 rendering should
be equal with highway=footway.

Can you also get maplint to accept:-
ncn=yes
amenity=bicycle_parking
highway=secondary 'with' roundabout=true ; the combination seems to fail
cycleway=track / lane / opposite_track / opposite_lane ; I think some of
these tags are already accepted, but not all
Can osmarender render:
mini-rounabouts only at the same zoom levels that traffic signals are
rendered (either bring traffic_signals out one, or mini-roundabout in one)
crossing=toucan/pelican/zebra ; the list can grow, but this is a good start
(at the same level as traffic_signals)
amenity=toilet ; same level as zebras etc.
I think all of the above should be demonstratable / testable here:

<http://informationfreeway.org/?lat=52.05525503346746&lon=1.149540679005921&
zoom=16&layers=0B00T000> &lon=1.149540679005921&zoom=16&layers=0B00T000
(Personally I would like osmarender becoming more pedestrian focused as one
gets more zoomed in with pedestrian/cyclist features getting more attention
and main roads getting less prominence). Alternatively we need a new
rendering style for pedestrians (which of course only needs to be available
for high zoom levels).
Regards,
Peter
