However, I can see come cases where it would be usefull to be able to move large
selections around. When I was less experienced I mapped two suburbs from Yahoo
Imagery - when I went out there to get street names (and logs as a
result), I found
that the imagery uniformly out by 30m.

Had I been more experienced with JOSM I could have just nudged the whole lot
and the problem would have taken seconds to correct
