I generally agree with you there. But on this occasion, the editor has
taken two (assumed) valid values and appended them into a known
invalid (possible exceptions) one. And many users won't be paying
attention to the attribute list. The colour change is certainly
helpful, but may be too subtle for many users (particularly if editing
an unclassified road or anything esoteric that has no special colour
of its own)
