Bitmap based pre-rendered maps are always a trade-off.
If you are looking for a more "google-like" dynamic map, then check out the vector tiles based maps which support search for amenities and can dynamically display features.
The arguments had been cited already by the map maintainers. You can always fork and render your own map. Free OSM data allows you to do so.
