[OSM-talk] Is edit adding private dataset created specially for OSM considered an import or not?

Thanks for raising the situation on the list. Looks like there is dialogue with the mappers in question, and that’s the first and best thing to do to improve the map and our community!
I’m also curious to learn more about the process and why they edit outside OSM initially. Something like this should be documented one way or another. If there are things they can do better, and I’m sure there is, they and the map will benefit from the feedback.
It seems like Mateusz is seeking a way to justify a fast large revert before any discussion, and I don’t think that’s right either. All the guidelines mention communication between mappers and if things aren’t resolved well that way, or it’s an urgent situation, contact the DWG to assess. This particular map issue may be messy but isn’t urgent, so taking time to see how best to resolve makes perfect sense.

This is my view as Mikel, not as a Board member. I have no direct connection to the mapping project. However I’m generally interested in how entities like the UN can work well and contribute to OSM.
Mikel
