[OSM-talk] Could we have a bot please to remove duplicates.

Somehow we have duplicates in the database that look very much as if the
same information has been uploaded twice. Probably by users exiting iD
before it has changed the status flag on the uploaded items.

If the tags are the same and the points are the same and it is the same
user on both I think it would be reasonable to delete one of them by bot.

Numbers, I've just cleaned up more than a couple of hundred buildings in
Niger. I think another mapper mentioned they had cleaned up over a
hundred. Picking them out manually can be done but I think a bot would be
better in this instance as you need a certain amount of expertise to pick
them out manually and I'm quite certain that the mappers with the expertise
to do it could be better employed doing something else.

I am aware of the hesitancy to allow automated edits and there is a
political aspect to this.

I'm not sure who should be responsible for creating or running the bot.

Thoughts

Thanks John
