[OSM-talk] Upgrading to Java 11

JOSM has installers for Windows <https://josm.openstreetmap.de/download/windows/josm-setup.exe> and Mac <https://josm.openstreetmap.de/download/macosx/josm-macosx.zip>. These bundle a Java JRE (Java 17, IIRC), so you don’t necessarily need to update the system version of Java (I’d still recommend it). JOSM recommends Java distributions that include JavaFX as some plugins require it (specifically, Microsoft StreetSide). Azul has a Java distribution that includes JavaFX ( https://www.azul.com/downloads/?version=java-17-lts&package=jre-fx <https://www.azul.com/downloads/?version=java-17-lts&package=jre-fx> ). If you don’t intend to use or are not using Microsoft StreetSide, then the Adoptium project will be fine.

If you want to use the josm.jnlp file, we recommend using OpenWebStart ( https://openwebstart.com/ <https://openwebstart.com/> ).

We might want to see how easy it would be to create and link to a page with instructions on how to update Java. Or at least link to a download page.
