@woodpeck while finer grained permissions can make sense, I'm thinking about simply adding some documentation, because the main problem for users is knowing what the individual permissions actually allow. 

I suspect that given the lack of really sensitive information, the preferred language being perhaps the "worst" item, that the user details are quite a good proxy for "has an OSM account", and the typical user would not have an issue disclosing the information, as, as @tomhughes points out, the same ai available via the website, if they could actually verify that this is the case.
