You are absolutely right, that is a common and annoying problem: sztern,
stern or shtern; jabotinski, zabotynski... I prefer to tag according to the
street signs, they usually also have a latin version.
A variation of this problem is also quite outstanding when looking at
green/blue intercity signs...
